Question:

Detailed Anatomy Ultrasound at 18-20 weeks pregnancy?

I just had a detailed anatamy ultrasound done at a hospital. Within a few minutes of getting dressed and waiting outside the technician gave me the results. I was a little shocked because I have ultrasounds done before and they usually take a few days to get the results. I am just nervous that she may have done a sloppy job. Could they get the results that quick? And does anyone know how they figure if there are any problems ...does the ultrasound machine show it by some kind of markers or the radiologist analyzes it and finds out if any problems? I am just a little confused and nervous!

  1. just by looking at the screen and measuring they can tell right away, its usually just the report that takes a while to write up

  2. My ultrasound technician was giving me the results as she continued with the scan, pointing out this is the right leg, it looks straight and normal, this is the heart, all four chambers are fine and the beat is steady.  The only time she didn't give me feedback like that was when she thought something looked wrong.  That she left to my doctor to tell me at my next appointment.  She has seen enough ultrasounds to be able to know while looking at the screen if anything is abnormal.

  3. I have never had my results in hand. I have "out" ultrasound, but in the same hospital. So they pass the information to each other.

As long as they have not took any analysis, usually the results are ready immediately (during anatomy ultrasound).

I wonder what you have to do with the results, or is it just a copy for yourself?

I am sure everything fine, you just worried like every mom-to-be!

    Good luck!

  4. My us tech always told me that she wasn't paid to tell me what the results are....the dr is, and so she wouldn't tell us anything.

  5. They see things instantly, so they get the information they need as they go along measuring bones, and organs, checking each thing as they go.

  6. I had up to 30 ultrasounds with my pregnancy and every single one of them i got the results that same day i never had to wait and i had them done in a ton of different places i would not worry usually the machine does everything

  7. my doctor always has the results while i'm still lying on the table. What they do is measure everything and the measurements get plug into the computer and they calculate wether or not the baby has any problem and is growing at a good rate. in my case my baby falls into the 66 percentile all that means is that she is a little big which is no big deal. I would trust your doctor. and congratulations on the healthy baby

  8. My ultrasound visits i always find out right then and there if there is any problems. They are trained to discover that stuff right away. The machine usually calculates everything and they look at it and they know if there is a problem by what it says. Doesn't take long at all don't know why they ever made you wait a day to find out.
