Detailed wrap up of Serbian and Portuguese teams presser – Volleyball
Serbia received an astonishing defeat from Portugal in a five-set match on Friday, June 10. The match was hosted by Serbian city Belgrade and the home team had certain advantages over guest team from Portugal.
However, Serbia could not profit the competitive edge of playing under homely effect and lost the match. Portugal proved to be better team in every aspect of the game. They pushed the hosts behind the line and demonstrated a stellar performance. Post match,
there was press conference held in Belgrade. The team captains and head coaches along with other staff members were present at the media gathering.
Bojan Janic, the captain of Serbian team regretted the loss of important match at home. He said his side was not focused to give out a convincing performance but Portuguese team showed a great spirit of winning the match. He congratulated them for displaying
a memorable play. He seemed dissatisfied about his team’s performance as the home players could not concentrate in the match. As a result they had to go through the painful experience of walking with heavy heads in front of the local fans.
Nonetheless, Serbia has one more chance to bring to the game to even point. The two sides are scheduled to play their second match on Saturday, June 11 and the local fans would really want to see them with the tag of winners. Janic has assured for a promising
performance in the next match. He said we will work hard and change the situation.
The head coach of Serbian side, Igor Kolakovic also had the feeling of remorse after losing the match. He said that it was extremely a big blow for them. According to him, some certain elements of the game did not work out for them and caused them the damage.
Nonetheless, he congratulated the Portuguese team for their better play. Kolakovic is now keeping all focus on the next match. He is optimistic that this time around, they will be able to dismantle the power of opponents.
The captain of Portuguese team, Joao Jose was also present at the press conference. He was simply overjoyed with the sense of great victory over hosts Serbia.
He stated, “I am speechless by the manner we played today. I’m proud of what we’ve done tonight, because we’ve shown some things we've never done before. We have practiced and improved on our tactics in the last few months, which was our goal, to improve
the level of our game. Serbia played under so much pressure, but we’ve insisted in forcing the opponent to struggle all the way. It was a benefit for us, since we won.”
The mentor of Portuguese team, Juan Diaz seemed totally satisfied with his team’s performance.
He said, “We’ve worked a lot and prepared for this match by watching and observing our opponent. We managed to gain every point we had in our hands and that’s what took us to this victory.”
All eyes are now set on their second meeting.
