  1. I'm a hair stylist. Dont do it. If your hair is already frizzy, you better get ready. Thats a chemical unlike any other. What it does is breaks down the disulfide bonds in your hair and recreates them through the combing process while the chemical is in your hair. Most of your hair will become damaged through this process and break off. Then, you'll have to wait till your hair grows out, all of your new growth will be curly and you'll have this straigh fried hair below it. Its just like getting your hair colored, you know how long it would take to wait for that color to grow out if you never changed it or touched it up? Its the same thing. I suggest using a straightner, and an anti frizz serum, be sure to use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and also, very important, a heat protection spray before you blow dry or straighten your hair. Its very expensive, the most expensive one is is the japanese straightner and its $800 at my salon. Getting your hair relaxed is just like I said, it breaks the bonds inside the cortex of your hair, the cuticle is on the out side of your hair which can be damaged very easily but the cortex is on the inside which has bonds just like dna, the way the bonds are shaped are the way your hair grows, if the bonds are twisted then your hair is curly, if they are straight then well... its straight. Its just like a perm except for a perm, they wrap the hair around rods, then use the chemical to break the bonds, then they use a neutralizer which then reforms the bonds making them curl b/c they were wrapped around the rod to be reformed in that shape. I hope your following me, its kinda tricky to understand lol

  2. When you get your hair chemically straightened. You are getting it straightened forever, and there is no way to get it to go back to it's original state without cutting off the straightened hair. It also weakens the strands so you'll have to take extra care in your hair, by deep conditioning and using special shampoos, because your hair will be more prone to breakage. You'll also have to upkeep with it every 6 weeks minimum because your roots (aka: new growth) will show at the top, and you may be dealing with two different textures. If you get a new one any sooner and your hair may start to break off due to oover processing Lastly, Your hair may seem thinner due to the fact that all the poof has been sstraightenedout but you will still have volumee!

  3. There are two techniques. One is chemical staightening, which is permenant and must grow out, the other is chemical relaxing which last about three or four months.  The latter is essentially done with a diluted perming solution. The other is a specific product.  Both services are quite expensive. Anywhere from $200 -$1000.  If you are on a budget or just looking for a cheaper price, find a hairdressing school in your local area that has a working salon and ask if they perform this service.  It's much cheaper to have it done there.

As for the good and bad things, well, you are chemically changing the molecular structure of you hair.  In the first couple of weeks, it will be quite fragile but on the other hand, much softer and easier to manage.

    Best of luck
