Details begin to surface about Greg Halman’s stabbing – MLB Update
Seattle Mariner’s out-fielder Greg Halman was stabbed to death in his native Netherlands, but there was no concrete evidence to identify the criminals. However, as the investigations go on, Greg’s brother Jason continues to be in police custody, although
he has not yet been charged for the offence.
Greg’s family was still not available to comment on this moment of grieve, having lost one son permanently and the other alleged to be directly or indirectly involved in this case. Sources, nevertheless, say that both brothers were inseparable and were the
most perfect example in the baseball world. Jason, the younger brother, shared an apartment with Greg in Rotterdam and played baseball for one of the local outfits, but was said to be talented enough to earn selection in Major League Baseball.
The details of this incident continue to be a mystery, but there was some development as far the stabbing is concerned. It was learnt that loud music was the reason why Greg walked downstairs and then never returned. However, there is no certainty to this
assertion and this is just an initial development.
Halman was in Europe as part of the European Big League Tour and was responsible for the promotion of the sport as well as conducting clinics for young prospects. Greg was renowned for his baseball talent in Netherlands and enjoyed a celebrity status among
fans. His death is not only shocking, but unbelievable.
Major League Baseball has been marred with controversies this offseason and Greg’s death is on the top of that list. Earlier, Washington National’s Wilson Ramos was kidnapped from outside his native house in Venezuela, only to be rescued 51 hours later by
police from a mountainous area. Venezuela’s President and state authorities left no stone unturned in ensuring a safe rescue of the local superstar, who enjoyed an outbreak rookie season with the Nationals this past season.
MLB needs to ensure safety of its players and officials to give them more confidence on the field. However, these controversies have not marred the confidence of players and they continue to embark on assignments such as the Venezuelan winter league and
MLB ambassador tours.
