I work on the infield at the del mar race track and see the people leading the racehorses to the gate and for warm up/cool down. It looks like an interesting job and would love to do it with my horse. How do you get a job like that? Whats required of the horse and person ponying? Any info you have I would like to know! Thanks!

  1. You have to be licensed by the state. You need to start ponying horses in the morning and move up to races.

  2. Yes you do have to get licensed by the state ,,But most of all your horse has to full proof that he will not kick, runaway, and is dead broke and sound for the Job,

Not any horse can become a pony horse and NOT every trainer will hire a pony girl they do not know well. They hand you a million dollar horse they want someone they can trust with it ,,

You will have to get on a trainers list to get on to the back stretch, and then you have to have your pony and you ok'ed By track officials , But that is Not necessary if you ride for one trainer,

and it is a 7 day's a week job Mornings and afternoons,

You will make good money doing it,

Plus you have to go to all the meets so you will be on the road allot , 365 days a yr,
