Question:

Determine the payout?

Yesterday at my local racetrack, I placed a $6 show bet on a single ticket for horses 3 and 6 (odds 3-1 and 15-1 respectively; #3 to win, #6 to finish second). I cancelled my bet (due to the low odds) and, much to my chagrin, those horses finished in that exact order. How much would I have won?

  1. Depends how many horses were in the race.

Also I may be wrong, but in the US isn't most track-side betting pool betting rather than fixed odds? In which case it depends how much money was in the pool and how it was distributed.

In the UK standard place terms are usually 1/4 or 1/5 and anything from 2-4 places depending on number of runners and whether the race is a handicap.

  2. 30$. It is a show only.
