  1. Perpendicular because the slopes are opposite. slopes are x and as you can see one is x and the other one is -x and their opposites which right away tells that the lines are perpendicular. Perpendicular lines are lines that cross each other in a 90 degree angle.

  2. The equation for a line is y = mx + b, where m = slope. Parallel lines have the same slope. Since the slope in the equations are 1 and -1 respectively, they are not parallel.

  3. These are already in the form of y =mx+b, where m is the slope and b is the y-intercept.

    We can see that the slope of the first equation is 1 and the slope of the 2nd equation is -1.  Therefore, the lines are perpendicular (perpendicular lines will have 1 with a slope of x and the other with a slope of -x).  If the lines were parallel, they would have the same slope.

  4. actually they are all wrong.

    they are right about the opposite reciprocals though. but if it was perpendicular, it would be: y = -(X/1) + 2

    just because it has a negative doesnt make it a reciprical.

    the opposite reciprocal of X is -(X/1)

    and it isnt parallel because the y-intercepts ( the 7 and 2) are different.

    **SO its really NEITHER parallel or perpendicular.**

    i hope that helped =]

  5. oh my... looks like the concept of slope is confounding some people

    y = x + 7 ==> y = 1x + 7 ==> slope = 1 (not x)

    y = -x + 2 ==> y = -1x + 2 ==> slope = -1 (not -x)

    the slope is the coefficient of x; that is what you find the negative reciprocal of

    -1 / 1 = -1; yes, 1 and -1 are opposite reciprocals

    you leave the x alone when you find the opposite reciprocal of the slope

    they ARE perpendicular

  6. Neither

    y=x+7

    x=1,2,3,4,5,6

    y=8,9,10,11,12,13

    y=-x+2

    x=1,2,3,4,5,6

    y=1,0,-1,-2,-3,-4

    Plot it and it should be neither

  7. Perpendicular.

    The slope is the opposite-reciprocal of the other.  That means perpendicular lines.
