Determining Stock ownership ?

How can I find out how many shares of Disney Corp. we have ? I have a dividend check from 1985 for 19 cents for the 2 shares we had. A certificate was never issued, and the dividends were not requested after that check. The Disney web site doesn't recognize me as a shareholder. What do I need to do, and how much will it cost ?

  1. do you still have the documentation sent along w/the dividend check?  if so, call that phone number.  if the company no longer exists, do some googling to see if it was purchased by another company.

as someone mentioned, a broker probalby has the actual certificate.  it is rare for stock owners to have athe actual certificates.  if you bought the shares directly from Disney (and i'm not sure if they have a direct stock purchase program; they're fairly rare.  mcdonald's for example has one i believe), i can imagine it will be a headache cutting thru the red tape to find your answer.

and you shouldn't have to request dividends...they should be sent automatically.  who did you request teh dividends from?

  2. is it actually from 1985? if so, disney probably turned it over to the govt as abandoned property. even if that's not the case, go to disney's website and look for their investors section and they should have details on what to do to get a certificate reissued.

  3. call their investor relations department.

  4. If a certificate was not issued, and you are not a registered share holder, the shares of stock reside with your broker.
