Question:

Determining ancestry by beard colour?

I'm a Persian Turk. I was told by a friend, that if your beard has a red to it you're "more Persian". Apparently, if you have a totally black beard, it would mean your ancestry is part Arab. Is this true..? I've done some research and figured out that my ancestors were most likely Medians (Mede). Is this true, or is it bs?

  1. Not entirely true. You cannot completely say who is of what ancestry based on the colour of a beard. I would say the red beard does make you more Persian, as Persians are closer related to Europeans than Arabs, and red hair and beards is common in Indo-European people but virtually unknown amongst the Arabs. Also red hair is a recessive genetic trait so it would likely be "overpowered" the Arabic black beard genetics.

I would not say anyone with an all black beard is part arab. My facial hair is entirely black and my ancestry is a mix of English/Welsh/Irish. No Arab blood in me, green eyes but dark brown hair and a black beard.

  2. That's not true at all!

  3. Makes sense to me,   Just about  all  one of your unique features are  inherited  I have a grand father who was in the civil war, his beard was black and white like mine.
