  1. hey it can be very difficult, i detoxed myself from (proper usage of) oxycontin and percoset at home with my doctor's advice. (it took me 39 days to go from 80mg oxycontin 2x/day and 10-20mg percocet up to 4x a day to nothing, 3 years ago).

try reducing your dosage by 1/3 to 1/2, for a few days. you won't feel great, but do this for 1-3 days, then reduce again. when you get down to a very small dosage, extend the time between dosages. and when you're down to almost nothing, i highly recommend taking some nyquil for about a day to help get over that jumpy-leg jones feeling.

it'll also help if you have whatever comfort foods and drinks you like, stay very hydrated and as well nourished as you can (you might be nauseous; have some ginger ale, peppermint, strong cinnamon flavors around, tea, soup, ginger candy is great too). i also swear by arizona stress tea which is non-caffeinated, not too caloric, and has valerian root in it to de-stress you and make you a bit drowsy. (you can also just buy valerian at the health food or vitamin stores, but if you try to brew it as a tea or take it as a pill, be forewarned: it actually smells like p**p! the arizona version tastes nice and is very effective.) whenever you feel drowsy, try to sleep (don't push past it). when you feel wakeful or jumpy, do something - walk, sing along with your favorite album, read, anything to occupy your mind and keep it from thinking about how yucky you feel.

whatever you do, give yourself time (1-3 days per decrease in dosage) and you might want to warn your loved ones so they understand why you're cranky/nervous/sleeping a lot/walking around a lot. anything you can do for yourself that makes you feel better - hot baths, showers, long walks, your favorite treats, massages, s*x...whatever you can tolerate that makes you feel better otherwise can be a real help. and yes, the endorphins from s*x can really help! try it!

    good luck, and feel better.

  2. I was on it for a broken shoulder. I know how it makes you feel. It can be highly addictive!

You have to ween you self off....Very slowly.

I don't know of any over the counter meds that help?

Just keep taking less and less , ask your doctor, believe me his is aware of how easy it is to become addicted to it.

You have nothing to be ashamed of....It happens!

  3. Yes and congratulations on trying to wean off..

Ibuprophen...200 mg every 4 hours during day and 800 mg ONLY at bedtime..(it can make you drowsy)

Works great.I'm actually helping a home patient roght now do same and she is amazed at results after taking vicodan for 3 years..

    Best of luck,

    Nurse Andrea RN

  4. good for you. i was on it after the birth of my child, constantly. i didn't want to get off of it. i have no idea where elce to get it once my refills were up so luckily for me i didn't.

prayer can help, just try it!
