Detroit Lions DT Nick Fairley arrested by Alabama State Troopers - NFL News
Detroit Lions are facing serious disciplinary problems with some of their young players as another off-the-field incident has brought the franchise under a negative spotlight.
First it was Lions running back, Mikel Leshoure who in early March was arrested by Police under a drug possession charge and pleaded guilty in court.
Leshoure was caught by Police during a traffic stop and the running back was caught red handed with pot in his mouth during the stop.
Then it was young wide receiver, Titus Young who punched teammate and safety, Louis Delmas on the face from behind following a heated argument between the two during practice.
Young was banned from training with the Lions since that incident indefinitely.
From these two incidents it was hoped that players might learn to stay away from trouble but that is not the case as another incident on Sunday once again showed that lessons have still not been learnt.
Defensive tackle, Nick Fairley on Sunday was arrested by Police after being seen driving at 100 miles per hour in his Cadillac Escalade and was found to be driving under the influence.
This is the second time Fairley was caught in two months in his home state of Alabama.
The defensive tackle, according to Fox10 posted a $ 1,750 bond and was released shortly after by Police.
He now faces charges of reckless driving, no proof of insurance and open container, according to Alabama State Troopers.
The Lions have refused to comment on the incident and said that they are monitoring the situation.
"We are aware of the reports and are in the process of gathering more information,"
Drafted by Detroit in the first round of the 2011 drafts at 13th overall, Fairley did not make an impact last year after suffering from a leg injury that kept him out for most of the season.
Fairley ended with just 15 tackles and a single sack last year.
It is now time for the Detroit Lions to get tough with their players over disciplinary issues since such incidents can hurt the team badly in the upcoming 2012-13 season as the franchise is targeting a return to the playoffs.
