Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew says RB Jahvid Best is recovering well - NFL News
Detroit Lions running back, Jahvid Best is still on the road to recovery as he continues to rehabilitate from a concussion which ruled him out for much of the 2011-12 season.
The running back was placed on injured reserve after suffering from concussion like symptoms against San Francisco 49ers in week 6.
Best is currently working out and getting back in shape at the Lions training facility but has not taken part in any practice involving contact.
However, the franchise has some good news on that part as Lions general manager, Martin Mayhew shared the status of the running back’s fitness in a radio interview.
According to the team’s official website, Mayhew said that the running back is currently recovering but will be able to start proper training in June.
"Those doctors felt like it just made sense to do that in June,"
Adding further he said.
"It gives him the most time. We are not doing anything that involves any contact and he's been cleared to do everything that we're doing right now and he'll be officially cleared for contact in June."
That is good news for the franchise which had an entirely non-existent running game in the previous season.
In addition to Best’s injury, the Lions were also without rookie running back, Mikel Leshoure who did not start a single game after tearing his Achilles tendon in practice.
The Lions were completely dependent on their passing game led by quarterback, Matthew Stafford.
Detroit though were not cowed by the lack of options at running back and Stafford led the Lions to their first playoff appearance since 1999.
With Best due to return to full fitness ahead of the new season the Lions already good offence will have another playmaker to give them a second option.
Mayhew went on to add that he is looking forward to see the running back return back on the field.
“He’s been doing everything in the offseason program and we expect he’ll be cleared sometime probably in June. We look forward to having him on the field.”
Best’s return will be a great boost to the Lions offence and the fans can look forward for even better results and performance in the new season.
