Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford's profile rising across America - NFL News
After a brilliant 2011-12 regular season for Detroit Lions' quarterback, Matthew Stafford, it is no wonder that his media profile is rising across the United States of America (USA).
The 24-year-old had his best season in the National Football League (NFL) this year since he joined the franchise as the number one draft pick in 2009.
Stafford’s brilliant form and synergy with wide receiver, Calvin “Megatron” Jackson, really captured the attention of NFL fans across the nation, and with his popularity skyrocketing like never before, he is getting offers for endorsing products and invites to exclusive red carpet events.
Stafford, who was in Indianapolis during Super Bowl week as he claimed the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year Award, walked the red carpet clad for Van Heusen's menswear and looked sharp as he signed autographs and during interviews for various television channels.
The formal nature of the events led Stafford to joke that they are not what he is usually accustomed to.
Speaking to the media during the NFL Awards, he said, "This is not my cup of tea," further adding:
"I don't really put myself out there too much, I might pick the Super Bowl weekend or another thing here or there to do, but I'm not out there doing a bunch of stuff. Football's more important to me than doing this stuff."
Much to the delight of Lions' fans, the extra attention is not changing their star player who wants to keep his feet firmly on the ground.
"It's different as far as things like this, going to the Super Bowl, getting chances to work with companies, do opportunities with them, there's more of them now than there was 12 months ago. That stuff's not that big of a deal to me. The biggest thing for me is being able to be out there, be successful for the team."
The Lions' quarterback was in his element this year after previous seasons had been hampered by reoccurring shoulder injuries.
Stafford passed for a mammoth 5,038 yards with a total of 41 touchdowns, completing 421 passes out of 663 attempted passes.
Next season Stafford may well improve on this year’s statistics and as his profile rises, so do the Detroit Lions who made the playoff rounds for the first time since 1999 this year.
