Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best feels he has no damage from previous concussion - NFL News
Detroit Lions running back, Jahvid Best is looking forward to once again take to the field in 2012-13 as he continues to train during the team’s organised team activities (OTAs).
The running back has a long history with concussions and he missed out on most of the Lions 2011-12 campaign due to a concussion he suffered against the San Francisco 49ers early in the season.
His absence from the team made the Lions offence more and more dependent on quarterback, Matthew Stafford, since the running game was all but absent from the team’s offence.
However, now Best is feeling better and believes that he is ready to get back on the field and help out the Lions with a big season.
According to MLive, the running back said that he has had no ill effects following his last concussion and is physically at his peak.
On Monday after practice, Best said.
"I'm pretty sure if there was any real damage going on, I would have physical problems and mental problems. I have no problems. I'm not worried."
The running back has a long history with concussions even during his college years.
Speaking about the concussion he suffered while playing for Oregon State University, he said that was the worst one he had suffered.
"That one I was actually unconscious, so that was totally different. That's why I'm not worried about it. If I can come back from that one, this one should be a piece of cake."
Joining the Lions in 2010 as a first round draft pick, Best has performed brilliantly during his time on the field and remains the franchise’s foremost running backs.
However, injuries have hampered his production consistently and hopefully he can remain fully fit for the entire 2012-13 season.
Head coach, Jim Schwartz, said that he is concerned about Best but as a running back, hits are a part of the game.
"I don't think that stigma is good for anybody. When you're a running back, contact is going to be a fact of life.”
Best played just five games last season, rushing for 390 yards from 84 attempts and scored two touchdowns before succumbing to injury.
