Detroit Lions RB Jahvid Best recovering, will take part in training camp - NFL News
The Detroit Lions last season could have been even better than 10-6 if they had one of their best offensive weapons healthy.
Running back, Jahvid Best missed much of the season after suffering a concussion and had to be placed on injured reserve to end what was looking to be a promising season.
Best has a history with concussions but his talent remains undoubted. Detroit had to depend heavily on their passing game with quarterback, Matthew Stafford taking over much of the burden to lead the team’s offence.
The franchise still ended up with a 10-6 record and made it into the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
In 2012-13 though, the Lions are confident that Best will be back in the line-up and general manager, Martin Mayhew in an interview with the
Detroit Free Press said that the running back will be available for the workouts and training camp this year.
“We’re just waiting on final clearance with Jahvid. It’s not like a hamstring where it’s a certain amount of time and a guy’s going to be ready. With the head you have to be careful and be smart. We’re not doing anything right now.
Adding further he said.
"There’s no need to rush to judgment on Jahvid’s situation. So we’re very optimistic. He’s doing very well. He feels great. He’s training right now and we’re looking forward to him being cleared.”
Detroit became too dependent on the passing game last season as their second running back Mikel Leshoure also missed most of the season due to an Achilles injury.
Running back remains one of the bogie positions for the Lions and they will hope that all of their players remain healthy in the new season.
The Lions are looking forward to the 2012-13 season with optimism as they finally boast a roster with a strong spine in offence with quarterback, Matthew Stafford and wide receiver, Calvin Johnson. They just need Best to stay healthy and get over his concussion
problems to become one of the best offences in the league.
They reached the playoffs last year but the Lions are already looking to go beyond that step in the next season.
