Detroit Lions WR Ryan Broyles optimistic about recovery from ACL injury - NFL News
Detroit Lions wide receiver, Ryan Broyles faces one of the worst situations any rookie could face in his first year in the National Football League (NFL).
The wide receiver suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his final season playing for his university, Texas A&M and might not even be able to play a single game during his rookie season.
Broyles is likely to be placed on the physically unable to perform list ahead of the start of the new season as his rehabilitation continues to progress slowly.
However, Broyles is still optimistic that he can recover in time for the first game of the 2012-13 season and does not want to be counted out just yet.
Talking to the Detroit Free Press on Saturday, Broyles talked about his chances for recovery.
"It's not out of the question at all. I feel good about the place I'm at right now, but there's really no timetable, and I'm going to take my time. The coaches want me to take my time as well, so I'm going to learn the playbook, and when the time is right
I'll be ready."
Such an injury takes at least eight to 12 months to recover from and time is on Broyles side as there is still significant time from now to the end of the season.
The wide receiver was picked up by the Lions in the second round of the drafts with their 54th overall pick and signed his first NFL contract on Thursday which will keep him at the franchise for four years.
Broyles was one of the most widely acclaimed receivers in this year’s drafts and was a potential first round pick before he picked up his injury.
Coach, Jim Schwartz though remains hopeful that his new receiver can recover in time for the new season.
"We'll see. There's a lot of ground between now and then, but he's on a good path. He's had a good rehab so far. He showed it in his pro day, and he's showing it here."
Hopefully the talented 24-year-old can recover in time for the new season and showcase his impressive talent in the NFL.
