Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz defends wide receiver Ndamukong Suh – NFL News
Detroit Lions coach Jim Schwartz has defended the behaviour of his wide receiver Ndamukong Suh, who has been called a dirty player by many.
During Week 13 game against Indianapolis Colts, Suh hit right tackle Winston Justice on an interception return and was accused along with his teammates of laughing and dancing when Justice got concussed.
After watching the game file, Schwartz gave his comments on the incident and said since there were no penalties given in that game the players were very excited.
He said, via Lions’ website:
“I don’t think anybody’s revelling in anybody being injured or anything like that.”
On Sunday, Indianapolis Colts right guard Mike McGlynn said of Suh’s behaviour:
"Totally ignorant on their part. Just childish stuff. We're all battling out there; I don't know if the hit was legal or not, but clearly he was hurt, and they're out there dancing and pointing at him and laughing. Just blatant disrespect. They're good players,
but there's no room for that. It's disgusting, really."
According to Colts interim coach Bruce Arians, the hit was not present in the film but the people who were at the sidelines had seen that.
He does not believe that it was the celebration of the block and thinks that it surely seemed to be for knocking Justice out.
Schwartz thinks Suh is playing consistently well this season. Suh has 21 tackles and six sacks in this season.
Schwartz said of Suh:
“It’s the production of our defence. It’s how effective our defence is, not what an individual player gets as far as sacks. But we’ve been happy with his play, and I think he had a very good game this last game.”
The National Football League (NFL) earlier fined Suh $30,000 for hitting Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub, who suffered a groin injury.
Schaub was furious with Suh and he told the press that he did not want Suh to be his teammate because he was not a Texan-worthy.
The NFL has not made any announcement about this incident yet. Lions are going to play Week 14 game against Green Bay Packers.
