Detroit Lions put up a fight against the Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears were not able to get into the lead against the Detroit Lions until the fourth quarter.
The Lions scored first after ending a Chicago’s offence in the first quarter by sacking Jay Cutler for 8 yards from the 15-yard line. Detroit returned the 50 yards punt for 19 yards and started their offence on Chicago’s 38-yard
line. Quarterback Drew Stanton rushed the final 3 yards himself to score the touchdown.
Since that first touchdown, the Bears constantly played catch-up to Detroit. They scored a touchdown in the next drive, but trailed again after a second quarter field goal by the Lions. The Bears got into the lead in the second
quarter and looked like they would keep it into the third with just 53 seconds remaining, but the Lions’ offence suddenly exploded with energy.
Running back Jahvid Best opened Detroits’ attack with a 45 yards rush. In the very next play, Stanton threw 46 yards touchdown pass to put Detroit back in the lead. Detroit forced a fumble out of the Bears in the third quarter
from Chicago’s yard line, which was recovered by the Lions on the 9-yard line. Detroit’s offence gained and lost a yard in the first two plays to stay on the 9-yard line. On 3rd and 10, Stanton passed 2 yards. Detroit had an opportunity to score
a touchdown, but had to attempt the field goal instead. The field goal attempt was good.
The Bears trailed 17 against 20 by the fourth quarter. In the seventh minute, Chicago scored a touchdown and created the lead that they would hold on to until the end of the game. Detroit had time enough to attempt one more offence.
They returned Chicago’s kick after the touchdown for 40 yards and began their drive on Chicago’s 40. Detroit pushed ahead 10 yards in three plays, but lost 9 yards when Stanton got sacked on the 34-yard line. The quarterback tried to keep the drive alive,
but could not do it. The Lions had to punt the ball. They would not regain possession of the ball. Chicago mounted a slow offensive with the intention of holding possession.
After a 16 yard pass, Cutler kneeled twice and ran down the clock to win the game for Chicago with 24 points against 20.
