Detroit Lions sell out Ford Field against San Diego Chargers – NFL News
The Ford Field has never looked this full. The Detroit Lions being the surprise package of the 2011 season are second in the National Football Conference North division and just one victory away from securing a first playoffs berth
since 1999 and the fans are turning out in droves to support their team.
The Lions will face off against San Diego Chargers on Saturday and tickets for the game have already sold out for the anticipated fixture. The game which will take place on Christmas Eve will be the thirteenth game that the Lions
have sold out this year.
Coach Jim Schwartz and the Lions players are humbled by the support of their fans and look forward to giving them a performance that will match their expectations.
“It’s awesome. It’s great to have the fans be excited and it’s great for us to be the reason,” said quarterback Matthew Stafford. “We are giving them something to cheer about and we take pride in that in our locker room. We are
expecting a big time game out of our fans and out of our crowd on Saturday.”
Coach Jim Schwartz when he first arrived did not find such a warm reception from fans. The team was in the doldrums having gone 0-16 and were not even close to the current side.
“There were some fences that needed to be mended and some stuff like that with our fans,” Schwartz said.
The times have changed for the better. The current Lions side is a strong united unit that has been both wonderful to watch and has a mean side to stop the opposition. Schwartz’s tight knit unit is 9-5 this season and with a win
over the Chargers will guarantee them a spot in the wildcard rounds.
Ford Field this year has been sold out most the time with Lions fans getting behind their side sensing something special. Schwartz believes the simplest reason is that the team has given fans something to cheer about by winning.
The Coach believes that fans come to see good performances and watch their team win.
“We have a great fan base here that have been dormant, but they’ve never gone away. And it just takes some winning to get them back and do that. So, our main objective was to win.” He said.
With every part of the franchise coming together for a common goal the Lions have never looked this good and will surely provide some much needed surprise factor in this season’s playoffs.
