Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors win: NBA Sunday Round-up (Part 2)
Detroit Pistons 112 – Charlotte Bobcats 101
Rodney Stuckey came off the bench with 24 points and 11 assists as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Charlotte Bobcats 112-101 at Time Warner Cable Arena on Sunday night.
Centre Chris Wilcox added 14 points and seven rebounds while guard Richard Hamilton had 11 points and six assists for Detroit. Centre-forward Greg Monroe and forward Jason Maxiell chipped in with 10 points each for the Pistons, who won their third straight
game.
Gerald Henderson posted a team-high 21 points, while Boris Diaw finished with 20 points for the Bobcats, who have lost six consecutive games. Guard D.J. Augustin registered 14 points and as many assists while Dante Cunningham posted 10 points in the defeat.
Diaw scored 16 of his 20 points in the first quarter as Charlotte outplayed Detroit 40-25 after 12 minutes. The Bobcats extended their lead to 59-50 at half time. The Pistons got themselves back into the game in the third quarter and converted their nine-point
half time deficit into an 84-78 advantage after three quarters.
Detroit extended their lead to as many as 13 points midway through the fourth quarter. The game ended in a 112-101 victory for the Pistons.
Toronto Raptors 99 – New Jersey Nets 92
The Toronto Raptors snapped their three-game losing streak by defeating the New Jersey Nets 99-92 at the Air Canada Centre on Sunday night.
Toronto played the game with a balanced attack as five of their players ended up scoring in double figures. Guard Jerryd Bayless led the Raptors with a team-high 19 points while James Johnson, DeMar DeRozan and Ed Davis scored 18 points each in the victory.
Julian Wright added 10 points while Reggie Evans had 15 rebounds for the Raptors, who have won just two of their last 10 games. The 23-year-old Brook Lopez did all he could as he posted a game-high 35 points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort.
Sasha Vujacic finished with 19 points, three assists and three rebounds in the Nets third straight defeat. The Raptors were off to an impressive start as they went on a 16-6 run early in the first quarter and carried a 31-22 lead into the second.
The Raptors shot 66 percent from the floor in the first half and extended their lead to 61-42 at half time. Evans hit a pair of free throws at the start of the third quarter, as the Raptors stretched their lead to as many as 21 points, and held an 82-62
advantage going into the final stanza.
Trailing by 20 points after three quarters, the Nets made a marginal comeback in the fourth quarter. New Jersey cut the deficit to four points at 96-92 with 46 seconds to go in the fourth. However, Bayless scored three of six free throws to seal the victory
for Toronto.
