Detroit Pistons crush Philadelphia Sixers 94-76; claim their first win of the season: NBA Recap
Greg Monroe scored 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds and rookie Kyle Singler added 16 points as Detroit Pistons defeated the Philadelphia Sixers 94-76 here at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday night. Tayshaun Prince and Brandon
Knight also chipped in with 15 points each for the Pistons, who finally snatched their first win of the season in 9 games.
Lavoy Allen led the Sixers with 14 points, Jrue Holiday chipped in with 12 points and 7 assists as no other Sixer managed to reach double scoring figures in a disappointing shooting performance.
Sixers shot 29.8 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from the three point range while the Pistons shot 47.9 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from downtown. This 29.8 percent is the lowest ever shooting percentage at
the Wells Fargo Center by any team since its opening in 1996.
Feeding from the energy of the crowd, Sixers started well and were up 11-6 when Jason Richardson sunk in a three pointer. A Kwame Brown layup had the Sixers up by 13-8 before a quick 9-0 spree by the Pistons had them leading at
17-13. Richardson again fired one from downtown to cut the deficit down to 16-17. But the Pistons closed the period sharp and were leading 23-17 at the close of the quarter.
The Pistons meant business from the start of the period and were up 27-21 early. A Lavoy Allen jumper cut the deficit down to 26-31, before the Pistons responded with a 6-0 run, capped off by a Monroe dunk, which extended their
advantage to 37-26. A Spencer Hawes running layup left the Sixers trailing by 34-47. The Pistons finished the period strong scoring the final 5 points as they went into halftime leading 52-34.
The third quarter was the only period in which the Sixers outscored the Pistons. But they never really looked like threatening the Pistons. A Holiday jumper early in the period had the hosts trailing by 41-56. Dorell Wright fired
a three pointer to cut the deficit down to 46-57 but it was the closest they got to the Pistons in the period.
Detroit were able to pull away in the later part of the quarter and had a solid 15 point lead at the end of it at 69-54.
Pistons kicked off the final period with a 5-0 run to fully cement their authority. Corey Maggette knocked down a three pointer as the Pistons went up 83-61; at that point the writing was pretty clear on the wall for the Sixers.
They only had face saving left to do as the Pistons closed the game winning by a comfortable margin of 94-76.
