Detroit Pistons sweep New Jersey Nets 109-92 for an emphatic win – NBA Recap
On Friday night, Detroit Pistons swept away the visiting New Jersey Nets 109-92 at Palace of Auburn Hills.
This game was a completely one sided affair, with Pistons dominating the night as they added another feather in their cap, stretching their winning streak to 4 games.
This is the longest winning streak for Pistons since a five game run in December 2009. They have now won 6 games at home in this shortened season.
Forward Tayshaun Prince commented on the winning streak after the game.
"When we ran plays earlier in the season, we tried to look for that first option and that's it. Now, guys are understanding there's more options to one play. If something breaks down, we can still do something different and that's
been a big plus for us."
Detroit shot 56 points from inside the paint; they were strong on the offensive glass and penetrative with their ball movement, resulting in a high yield, 47 attempts, inside.
Pistons had 25 assists in the game while they scored 24 on second chance points. They had a shooting rate of 54.4%, their highest of the season, and netted 76.0% from the charity stripe.
Jonas Jerebko with 20 points led a balanced attack while Rodney Stuckey scored 19. Centre Greg Monroe was in groove as he recorded his 15th double-double of this season, scoring 18 and with 11 rebounds. Ben Gordon added
14 and Brandon Knight had 13 points.
The opening frame was marked by two reciprocal runs from both teams - the Nets made a 7-0 run right after the jump ball but the Pistons rebounded with 12 unanswered points. Monroe had 6 of those points that included two tip-ins,
thus setting the tone for the Detroit.
By the end of 1st segment Pistons were up 24-15 and they never trailed in the game afterwards.
In the 2nd quarter, the Pistons had another 8-0 run midway, leaving the visiting side further away as they scored 28 and kept the Nets at 18. With a mammoth lead of 52-33, Detroit capped off the 2nd frame
confidently.
The hapless Nets couldn’t scratch off the lead in third quarter as well and with another burst, this time 12-4 with 03:32 in hand, the Pistons took a 78-48 lead. The 30 points lead was their biggest in the season so far. They added
another 9 points before the final segment and were up with a score that was impossible to beat for Nets, 87-64.
New Jersey scored 28 and Detroit 22 in the last 12 minutes of the game, but it was far from anything that could inflict a dent to the dominance of Detroit.
As the clock expired the Pistons handed over a humiliating defeat, 109-92, to New Jersey Nets.
The Nets who had lost their key 5 players to injury, were relieved to have rookie MarShon Brooks back on the team’s rooster, he scored 7 points. He had been off the court since January 29th, due to broken toe in his
right foot.
Johan Petro came up with a team high 16 points and Jordan Farmar along with Deron Williams netted 14 apiece. Forward Jordan Williams was the last player with double figures for the Nets as he recorded 11 for Nets.
