Detroit Pistons to interview Dwane Casey for the Head Coach Position – NBA Update
The Detroit Pistons are set to interview the Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Dwane Casey for their vacant head coach slot. The Detroit Pistons head coaching position has been empty since Joe Dumars, the teams President, announced
that the franchise has decided to part ways with former coach John Kuester.
Dwane Casey was one of the names mentioned for the new head coach at Detroit but the franchise could not approach him as he was still involved in the Dallas Mavericks now successful post season. Dwane Casey is a terrific coach
and was overlooked while performing well with little resources at the Minnesota Timberwolves.
However, his qualities have come to the fore with the Dallas Mavericks. Dwane Casey is credited with being the man behind the Dallas Mavericks improved defence this season, especially in the playoffs. Dallas’ defensive acumen was
a big reason for them winning an NBA World Championship for the first time in franchise history.
Now the Pistons are looking to interview the coach, hoping that Casey can bring that kind of success to the Motor City.
Dwane is not the only name linked with the Detroit Pistons job though. Since John Kuester’s inevitable firing, a host of coaches have been eyed by the Pistons. An early favourite was Mike Woodson. Mike was the assistant coach for
Larry Brown in the 2004 season when the Detroit Pistons won the most recent of their 4 NBA World Championships.
Woodson was considered to be the successor to Larry Brown at the time but decided to try his luck elsewhere. Mike was the assistant coach for Larry Brown in the 2004 season when the Detroit Pistons won the most recent of their

Woodson was considered to be the successor to Larry Brown at the time but decided to try his luck elsewhere rather than wait for Brown to leave the post.
Former Detroit Pistons players and Hall of Famers, Bill Laimbeer and Isiah Thomas are also in with a chance of getting the job. Laimbeer and Thomas won two NBA World Championships in Detroit, in what is considered franchise’ most
successful era.
Kelvin Thompson, the current assistant coach at the Milwaukee Bucks has already been interviewed for the job. So has Lawrence Frank, the current assistant coach of Doc Rivers at the Boston Celtics. Lawrence Frank was formerly a
head coach in the NBA as well with the New Jersey Nets.
In light of the sheer number of coaches being considered for the job, Dwane Casey might not get it in the end. However, the coach enjoys an ever improving reputation and he is likely to start as head coach of an NBA team next season
one place or the other.
