Detroit Red Wings' Patrick Eaves out for 6-8 weeks with broken jaw -NHL Update
Detroit is determined to take over the Western Conference and are currently on a five-game winning streak along with having improved their record for the month of November in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season to nine wins in their
past 13 matchups, but with all that hard work, players are bound to get injured.
The Red Wings were faced with a scary situation during their last matchup against the Nashville Predators on Saturday, November 26, 2011, after their veteran right winger, Patrick Eaves, was hit with the puck below his right ear, which resulted in a cut
and him falling down on the ice being carried out on a stretcher.
"All you do is to think of his health," Wings captain, Nicklas Lidstrom, said after the match. "He was in a lot of pain, and it's always scary when something happens like that. He was bleeding a little bit and in a lot of pain. The good thing is -- they
got him on a stretcher and to the hospital."
Right after the matchup which they won, 4-1, it was not clear what happened to the 27-year-old, but now as latest reports on the player emerged, it was announced that Eaves will be missing anywhere between six to eight weeks due to surgery required due to
his broken jaws.
"They did a CAT scan and everything else is OK," Detroit GM, Ken Holland, said. "When you get a direct blow to the head and there's a helmet to soften the blow it's not surprising he's got a broken jaw. That's bad enough, but the good news is there are no
injuries beyond the broken jaw."
Patrick Eaves is currently under observation and is being prepared for surgery in the Detroit Medical Center.
The Calgary, Alberta, Canada native has one point (1 assist), in the past 10 games he has played with Detroit in his third consecutive season with the team.
Luckily, there was no permanent damage reported anywhere else on the players’ face after the incident took place, but it was something that came out of the blue and was totally unintentional on the side of Roman Josi, whose slap shot had hit Eaves.
