Detroit Red Wings' Pavel Datsyuk still lacking All-Star Game Goal -NHL Update
Pavel Datsyuk is certainly one of the most well known players around the National Hockey League (NHL), but there is still one thing that he yearns for, which is to score his first goal in an All-Star Game and potentially pick up the award for being the Most
Valuable Player (MVP).
On the NHL All-Star Game roster for the third time in his career, the veteran forward who was playing for Team Chara on Sunday, January 29, 2012, at the Scotiabank Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, has now increased his point total in the ASG’s to four,
all assists.
"I've never scored in my career in an All-Star game," Datsyuk said. "But its good news, the dream's still there."
Scoring in the All-Star Game is never an easy feat since only top notch goalies are selected from around the league and with the competition in the net this time around, it got even harder.
For Team Alfredsson, assistant captain and goalie, Henrik Lundqvist, of the New York Rangers, was in net, which definitely had players scrambling to get some goals on the veteran.
"It's always tough to score on him," Marian Gaborik said of Lundqvist. "It's not easy. I was fortunate to be lucky against him, but I think he's one of the best if not the best goalie in the league."
Datsyuk made his first All-Star Game appearance back in 2008 and gave a good performance by setting up plays for his teammates, but failed to score a goal. He was again selected the following year in 2009 but did not appear in the matchup.
Despite the 33-year-old being unable to score, he enjoyed the overall game and is optimistic of more opportunities to do so in the future, it just might have his teammates setting him up even more.
"Today was fun," Datsyuk said. "I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was unbelievable."
At the moment, Pavel Datsyuk stands third in the league overall in terms of points and assist with 53 (14 goals, 39 assists). Being one of the top players in the nation, he will certainly be able to come out and score an All-Star Game sooner or later.
