Detroit Red Wings Daniel Cleary states not all Ready to Vote for NHLPA Dissolution -NHL Update
All games throughout December, up until the New Year, have been cancelled by the National Hockey League (NHL) as the gap between the league and Players’ Association grows larger and larger with each passing day a deal is not done.
Players across North America are now gearing up to vote on whether they want to dissolve the Players’ Association and have representation done in an entirely different way or to keep things the way they are. Over 700 members are expected to participate,
but according to Detroit Red Wings’ veteran, Daniel Cleary, not everyone is going to take part.
For Cleary, this is the make-it or break-it moment, and even though they might not get everyone to play their part in the vote, he still expects it to happen with an overwhelming majority to make the dissolution final.
"The way we look at it is, we've got 2 1/2 weeks," Cleary said Monday, according to freep.com. "Either we are playing, or we're not. I just hope that we get back to playing. I'm nervous."
Cleary, a 34-year-old native of Carbonear, Newfoundland, Canada, has been vocal throughout the lockout, which came into effect more than three months ago after the previous collective bargaining agreement expired in September. He has faced two lockouts in
his career, with the entire 2004-2005 season going completely to waste after failed negotiations less than a decade ago.
Now, for the former 13th overall draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks during the 1997 NHL Entry Draft, Daniel Cleary is not very hopeful of the situation now, but there is not much he can do besides being optimistic about the New Year, which will
have hockey or none at all.
By decertifying the labour union, it is believed that players are now deciding on going what players from the National Basketball Association (NBA) did recently and take the league to court to claim damages. The league on the other hand, has already filed
suit in court by filing a class action lawsuit against the move by the labour union.
It will definitely be interesting to see what happens in the next couple of days.
