Detroit Red Wings Danny Cleary not in favour of Third Party Interference in Negotiations -NHL Update
Having seen 13 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL), Danny Cleary clearly knows what should be going on and how the work stoppage should be dealt with in regards to the league and Players’ Association.
While the lockout may not have gone the way many people had hoped for as the entre preseason had to be cancelled, followed by a major chunk of the 2012-2013 NHL regular season, Winter Classic and All-Star Game, there is still hope of working things out,
but that does not include having a third party mediator enter into the scene.
What Danny Cleary is looking towards and wants to happen is a more clear discussion between the stakeholders, which in the end are the players and team owners. According to the 33-year-old, both should sit down in one room instead of having mediators and
representatives doing the deed in order to ensure a clear picture of what each side demands and wants to have done.
Obviously, this would not include NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr in the scene so that the real stakeholders may discuss openly and have their demands met face-to-face.
“We're talking about that,'' Detroit Red Wings forward Danny Cleary told MLive.com on Thursday. “Why not? Get some players in there, some different owners. They can get a feel of what we're thinking, we can get a feel of what they're thinking.”
“Maybe we could agree on a few things and take it to leadership,'' Cleary said. “It's something different. I think it's got some traction.'' “You'd have to have players there that have experience (in labor talks), know what's going on.''
Danny Cleary is a former 13th overall draft pick of the Chicago Blackhawks during round-one of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft and has had experience playing with the Blackhawks, Edmonton Oilers, Phoenix Coyotes and Detroit Red Wings throughout his career.
In a total of 821 games played up until now, Cleary boasts a career record of 362 points, with 151 of them being goals along with 211 assists and 415 minutes of penalty time to his name.
