Detroit Red Wings Defenseman Ian White Lets his Mind out on Lockout -NHL Update
“Idiot” is what Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ian White thinks National Hockey League (NHL) Commissioner Gary Bettman is in terms of how he has handled the current lockout up until now.
While he was talking with USA Today, the veteran defender let out his mind and the steam that had built up throughout this time as the lockout is now over two months old after the previous collective bargaining agreement came to an end on September 15, 2012.
"I gotta be honest: I personally think he's an idiot," White told USA Today on Friday. "Since he's come in, I think he's done nothing but damage the game."
"The whole process has just been frustrating," White added. "I think, just where we stand now, you'd think that we're close to making a deal if they're willing to come a little bit our way. It's something that could have been done even in the summer. So
it's frustrating. There's just absolutely no need to be missing games and doing this kind of damage."
White is a 28-year-old Detroit Red Wings defenseman and native of Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada. He was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs as the 191st overall back in round-six of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and has played in sevens seasons up until
now.
Fortunately, the league and Players’ Association are set to meet for the first time in over a week on Monday after negotiations came to a halt on November 11th and deadlocked the discussions once again. Both sides have sat down numerous times
in the past but just have not been able to reach a mutual consensus on a number of key issues that have been hindering any chance of the stakeholders making progress.
They are still divided on some key factors like players share in revenue along with contract related issues, making the upcoming day exciting as they meet up again and get back to negotiating on the table.
Updates should be expected in the next couple of days to see whether the league and labour union will be able to work something out this time or not.
