Detroit Red Wings Goalie Jimmy Howard Fed Up with Failed Talks -NHL Lockout Update
Labour talks have miserably failed between the National Hockey League (NHL) and Players’ Association despite team owners and players sitting down face-to-face in a rather candid meeting for the first time and for eight hours, which definitely has a lot of
players on the edge.
Having missed four pay checks is something, but other than that, players just want to get back to doing what they do best since it is just what they believe they are meant to do and not being able to do so gets everyone frustrated to the maximum.
All the optimism that had built up on Tuesday just went straight down the gutter when NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman formally announced that all talks had failed and proposals rejected.
"It kind of made me sick to my stomach. It really did," Detroit Red Wings goalie, Jimmy Howard, said according to ESPN.com. "This emotional roller coaster of getting excited, getting amped up -- it feels like the wind getting knocked out of you."
The idea of having players and team owners sit down with each other did definitely seem like one that would finally come to an end, but unfortunately, it just all ended with the league and Players’ Association not making offers that were in terms with what
they had discussed just hours earlier.
"I was blown away. Everybody was, trust me," Danny Cleary said. "The fans must be going insane. If you're a fan watching this unfold for the last 72 hours -- especially yesterday. What's going on here? Last night, the drama that unfolded was soap opera-ish."
Jimmy Howard has still not gone out to play in the foreign leagues and has been practicing at home while keenly following the labour negotiations, but it seems like all options have come to an end now.
The 28-year-old was drafted as the 64th overall during round-two of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings and has played with the major league franchise for six seasons up until now. In a total of 192 games played up until now, Howard
maintains a .917 save percentage and 2.41 goals-against average.
