Detroit Red Wings’ Johan Franzen flies past Ottawa Senators scoring 5 goals in the 7-5 win – NHL Updates
Detroit Red Wings has flown in and out of Ottawa and Senators still has no clue as to what happened. Losing 7-5 to the Red Wings, the already fragile Senators is having a tough time picking itself up from the ground. Right wing, Johan Franzen, wooed the
crowd by showing them a performance they might have not seen in ages and above that having a 50% goal percentage is another achievement making 5 out 10 taken shots. Scoring five goals is extremely rare in hockey and Franzen is the only one in the NHL to have
done it after Marian Gaborik of Minnesota Wild in 2007, humiliating New York Rangers.
Can it be the Ottawa Scotia Bank Plaza that holds good luck for Johan Franzen?
The last time he was here he scored two goals and that’s probably making him looking forward to more visits to Ottawa.
"I've only been in here twice I think, but I scored two goals the last time I was here", Franzen said. "I like this building".
It was Detroit’s own Sergei Fedorov who scored the last five goals for Red Wings in 1996.
What went on in the match?
Senators went strong into the match by scoring its first goal in a little over a minute by Alexi Kovalev, taking advantage of a power-play.
Apparently Ottawa had control over the match finishing the first period with a 3-2 lead, but struggled to keep that rhythm in the second and final periods.
Rookie goalie, Brian Elliot, was brought out of the game nearly 20 minutes in for having let four goals into the net out of 19 total shots taken, while replacement goalie, Robin Lehner, made a better effort only letting 2 out of 19 pass him.
Milan Michalek picked up 2 goals in the final 40minutes of the game.
How does Ottawa feel right now?
People who have any such association with Senators must be torn up inside, seeing that this is Senators’ 8th consecutive loss continuing from before the All-Star Game break.
Ottawa should have tried to make it a streak breaker game but due to a series of unfortunate events, failed to.
Such as when Senators had appeared to have tied the game with Chris Neil scoring with under 8 minutes remaining in the final period but referees didn’t register it, claiming that Detroit’s goalie, Jimmy Howard, had frozen the puck and it was illegal at that
time for game-play.
"It's very frustrating", Senators’ coach, Cory Clouston, said. "I thought our guys played hard and did a lot of good things out there. He also added that, “We talked a lot about creating offense and putting pucks to the net, and I thought we did a lot of
good things in that department as well".
It might just be a rough season for Ottawa.
Having the second highest team in the Western Conference facing you isn’t easy when you’re number 13 in the Eastern.
If they want to achieve anything in this season, practical and intelligent strategies are the key.
