Detroit Red Wings beat Phoenix Coyotes 4-2 to take 3-0 lead in series – NHL playoffs
Phoenix Coyotes beat Detroit Red Wings 4-2 to take a 3-0 lead in the quarter-final series at the Jobing.com Arena on Monday.
The Red Wings already had a 2-0 advantage going into the game as they won the first two home games and with a victory in this game, they have come close to becoming the second team to be one win away from the semi-finals.
The Red Wings were on top right from the start of the game as they fired shots on the goal and displayed excellent crisp passing. This resulted in the Red Wings scoring two early goals to get into the driving seat. There were several more shots on goal by
both teams but neither of them was able to score. The second period witnessed the Red Wings scoring early once again with the Coyotes also bagging a goal to cut the lead to two goals. The final period was the same with the Red Wings scoring the first goal
and the Coyotes scoring the second to win 4-2 in the end. Jimmy Howard, goalkeeper of the Red Wings, was the star of the game for his 28 saves.
The Red Wings had the confidence running from the last two games and carried the momentum into game three. They were lethal with their attacks and scored as early as the second minute to stun the home team to get into the lead.
The goal was scored by a powerful shot struck by Ruslan Salei. The Red Wings continued to pile pressure and scored once again in the next minute to double their advantage. The goal was scored by Drew Miller from a decent tip in shot.
There were a couple of more shots on goal but the goalkeepers did an excellent job and kept the attackers at bay. The period ended with the Red Wings leading 2-0 as they made 13 shots on goal while the Coyotes had 9 shots on goal.
The Red Wings were once again on top as the second period started. Their play-making was flawless at the beginning that resulted in the Red Wings extending their lead further. The goal was scored by Valtteri Filppula from a well-placed flick shot.
The Coyotes managed to open their account with a power-play goal in the 12th minute. The goal was scored by David Schlemko from a decent strike. The Red Wings led 3-1 as the teams went into the break. The Red Wings made 8 shots on goal while the
Coyotes made 12 goal attempts.
The final 20 minutes of play witnessed the Red Wings scoring in the very first minute through Johan Franzen to seal the game. Though the Coyotes scored once again during a power-play in the 13th minute through Ray Whitney but it was more of a
consolatory goal as the Red Wings won 4-2 in the end.
