Detroit Red Wings come up with a comfortable 3-1 win against the New Jersey Devils
The 745th game of the 2010 Compuware NHL Premiere Series was hosted by the Detroit Red Wings at the Joe Louis Arena. The match was played this Wednesday with around 20,000 fans coming to witness the match. The match saw the Detroit Red Wings hosting
the bottom placed team in the league, New Jersey Devils.
New Jersey Devils came up with an impressive performance as they managed to keep up pace with the Detroit Red Wings till the final period. Detroit Red Wings confidence in attacking due to them contesting for a top league position resulted in the home team
taking charge of the game and scoring twice in the final period to win the match 3-1. Darren Helm, centre of the Detroit Red Wings was named the star selection of the match for his important opening goal.
Both teams made a strong start to the match as they fired shots on goal right from the word go and didn’t let the opposing team settle. Chances started to come due to this fact and it was only a matter of time as to when we saw the first goal.
It didn’t take long with Detroit Red Wings pressing on and successfully scoring through Darren Helm in the 2nd minute to get into the lead. New Jersey Devils also attacked after Detroit scored the goal. The struggling Devils team who are recently
starting to find their way back into the season with a few wins managed to level the scores in the 7th minute.
The goal was scored by Brain Rolston from a brilliantly well placed flick shot. With the scores level the match got tougher with shots and some superb pieces of play constructed every now and then. The period didn’t see any further goals as the teams went
into the break with the scores level on 1-1. During the course of the period, Detroit Red Wings made 7 goal attempts while New Jersey Devils made 10 goal attempts.
The second period pretty much followed the same trend with both teams coming up with goal attempts every now and then. Though there were several chances for both teams to go ahead but they failed to capitalize from the numerous chances they got.
As the period neared its end, New Jersey Devils made more and more goal attempts and it looked as if they would score but this didn’t happen. The period ended with the scores still level on 1-1.
The final period of the match saw the Detroit Red Wings come out on a high and successfully taking the lead with a goal in the 6th minute through Valtteri Filppula to take the lead. Though New Jersey Devils fought hard to level the scores once
again but Detroit Red Wings seal the match 3-1 scoring once again through Johan Franzen from a decent shot in the 19th minute.
During the final period, Detroit Red Wings made 11 goal attempts while New Jersey Devils made 7 goal attempts.
