Detroit Red Wings confident against San Jose Sharks despite tough conditions – NHL playoffs
Despite having a great quarterfinals series against San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings are in a tough situation in which they might be eliminated from the National Hockey League playoffs in their next matchup.
After advancing to the Western Conference semi-finals after clean sweeping Phoenix Coyotes 4-0, the Red Wings are facing the same feeling the Coyotes must have felt after game three when they were down 3-0. Playing against their conference rivals, San Jose
Sharks, Detroit are still confident that they can come back and become the third team in the NHL playoff history to bounce back after a 3-0 deficit in a series.
It might seem like an impossible task as Chicago had a near attempt at it when they forced a game seven decider in which they lost against Vancouver Canucks. Philadelphia Flyers were the latest team to have achieved the feat of making a comeback in the previous
playoffs as they won four consecutive matches against Boston Bruins and coincidently are in the same position as of now facing the same team.
Not only are Philadelphia in the same place they were in 2010 but exactly 365 days ago, the Red Wings stood in this same position against San Jose Sharks which makes it even more of a challenging task. Most people would have thought that Detroit would have
learnt from their mistakes by now but that is not the case. The Red Wings came back in game four to make a huge statement against the Sharks as they won 7-1 but finally fell to the floor and out of the playoffs in a game five loss.
“Once in a while, (blowouts) will happen, but more often you will be in close games (against San Jose),” said Detroit forward Henrik Zetterberg. “Especially now, It will be a close game tomorrow again. We've just got to win.”
Not only are Detroit confident in their ability to make a recovery, but they are also expecting to bounce back on a high note in a humble manner. Being overconfident will not be of any benefit as it will just become a nuisance later on if they are unable
to win.
“I believe in being positive,” Babcock said on Thursday. “That's how I live my life. That's how I deal with my family. That's how I deal with every game. In other words, I just think that I'm going to disarm the bomb. I've always thought that. That's how
a coach thinks. Whether that's selective memory, whether that's being hard-headed or that's just not being that smart … whatever you want to call it, I'm just a believer.”
Whatever the result may be in game four on Friday, the Red Wings have a staunch belief in whoever wins in the long run will obviously prove to be the better team without any doubt.
