Detroit Red Wings confident with Darren Helm healthy again -NHL Update
Darren Helm is known around the National Hockey League (NHL) as a player who comes out to win and if he does not, than he will get his revenge somewhere, sometime and definitely does not rest till he does.
Which is why Detroit Red Wings are excited to have him back on the squad, healthy and ready to play some top class hockey as they lack captain, Nicklas Lidstrom, now after the Swedish legend announced his retirement during the offseason.
Detroit Red Wings head coach, Mike Babcock, was also of the view that without him, the franchise failed to maintain that consistent effort towards winning, which they certainly need at the moment.
"The interesting stat is what was our record last year with Helm in the line-up and what was our record without him?" Babcock said. "You're going to be shocked. That right there writes your whole article."
There are few players who can be compared to the ability and uniqueness of Darren Helm after the former 132nd overall pick back in round-five of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft proved his worth in Detroit and forever became a need of the team.
"I think one of the things you have to be careful of here is you have to do what you do and do it to the best of your ability," Babcock said. "He's at the stage of his career, no matter who they play against us on the road it should be no issue. If it's
(Anze) Kopitar, it should be no issue. He can play against anybody, and with his work ethic and tenacity he can wear anybody out."
Being a centre player, Helm provided Detroit Red Wings with extensive depth in defence and offence. Last season, he could participate in just 68 games last season and put in a total of 26 points (9 goals, 17 assist).
Next season will certainly be one in which Helm will have everything tested to the limits and if he fails to take his team to the team, than history will be written without his name in it for sure.
Helm is currently with Datsyuk and Zetterberg in the opening line.
