Detroit Red Wings defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 – NHL Recap
The first game of Sunday was played at the United Center as the Detroit Red Wings emerged as 4-3 winners of the game against the Chicago Blackhawks. Both teams managed to qualify for the National Hockey League play-offs, but needed the win if they wanted
to cement their position even further.
The game started off with both teams making shots on goal, as there were some decent plays but none of the shots found the back of the net. The second period began with the Blackhawks scoring the opening goal with the Red Wings also pressing forward. The
away side managed to score twice before the period ended to get into the lead. The final period saw both teams scoring two goals each which resulted in the Red Wings winning 4-3 in the end. Pavel Datsyuk of the Red Wings was named the Star of the Game as he
scored a goal and continued to come up with strong plays throughout.
Both teams displayed some strong passing and play-making abilities that got better with the passage time. There were a couple of shots on goal by both teams, but they still could not get past the opposing defence.
The defence on the other hand was also able to cope with the pressure that was put on them by the offence and they did not allow any goals. The goal-keepers also came up with a commendable job and did not allow any goals.
Though there were some decent plays by both teams, but the scores were level on 0-0 as the period ended with both teams making 10 goal attempts each.
The second period kicked off with both teams making a strong start that resulted in the Blackhawks scoring in the sixth minute through Michael Frolik from a well placed flick-shot. The Red Wings were not far behind as they managed to score in the very next
minute through Tomas Holmstrom to level the scores. The Red Wings continued to pile pressure and scored once again to get into the lead with Pavel Datsyuk scoring.
The period ended with the Red Wings leading 2-1 with the Blackhawks making nine shots on goal while the Red Wings managing 12.
The final period began with the Red Wings continuing from where they left off to further extend their lead. The goal was scored by Drew Miller in the second minute through a magnificent flick-shot. The Blackhawks managed to come up with some decent plays
that saw them scoring in the fifth minute to cut the lead to a single goal.
The goal was scored by Brent Seabrook from a powerful strike at long range. The Red Wings were able to come up with some quality plays that saw them scoring in the ninth minute through Danny Cleary.
However, it was the Blackhawks who scored the final goal of the game through Duncan Keith from a superb back-hand shot. The period and the game ended with the Red Wings winning 4-3.
