Detroit Red Wings defeat the Minnesota Wild 4-2 – NHL Recap
The Detroit Red Wings beat the Minnesota Wild 4-2 at the Joe Louis Arena on Sunday. The Red Wings were looking to get back on their winning ways after a rough National Hockey League season. The Wild needed a victory, as their chances of making it into the
play-offs are getting slimmer each passing day.
The game started off with the Red Wings scoring the early goal to get into the lead with the Wild also piling up a few shots on goal. With the passage of time, the Wild started to increase their attacks, but it was the Red Wings who scored once again in
the final minute to double the lead. The game started off with the Wild being the stronger of the two teams, as they scored early in the period to cut the lead. The Red Wings were able to put the foot on the gas and also scored a goal in the period. During
the final period, both teams were each able to score a goal, as the Red Wings won the game 4-2. Tomas Holmstrom, winger of the Red Wings was named the Star of the Game, as he scored a goal and performed brilliantly during the game.
The Red Wings were the first to make a shot on target, as they were able to find the back of the net. Darren Helm flicked the puck into the goal in the third minute.
Both teams piled up quite a few shots on goal and there was a considerable amount of pressure put on the opposing team. The Red Wings finally managed to score in the final minute once again to double their lead. The goal was scored by Nicklas Lidstrom from
a powerful strike.
The period ended with the Red Wings leading 2-0, as they made 10 shots on goal while the Wild also made 10 attempts.
The second period continued on the same road which resulted in the Wild scoring in the fifth minute through Brad Staubitz to trail by a single goal. The Red Wings were not far behind, as they too created a number of chances for themselves.
The Red Wings with some aggressive plays scored in the 13th minute through Tomas Holmstrom during the power-play to regain their lead.
The final 20 minutes of play began with the Red Wings making a strong start which resulted in them scoring in the seventh minute through Johan Franzen from a well placed flick-shot to further extend their lead.
The Wild were not far behind, as they dominated the game after the goal and successfully scored in the 17th minute through Carson McMillan. The period and the game ended with no further goals and the Red Wings won the game 4-2 with the Wild making
six shots on goal while the Red Wings managing 14.
