Detroit Red Wings deserved to win, says Jimmy Howard: NHL News
The Detroit Red Wings' goal-keeper, Jimmy Howard, after the game was very disappointed and the look on his face said it all about the defeat against the San Jose Sharks in the Game 3.
It was the exact same time last year that the Sharks defeated the Red Wings in an overtime game 4-3 to go ahead 3-0 in the series. Similar chain of events occured during this game, but this time the feelings of Howard are totally different considering the
fact that he was a rookie goal-keeper last time and is one of the key members of the team now.
The scores were level on 3-3 as the game went into overtime in the last game at the Joe Louis Arena. Howard had done well during the game, but he couldn’t stop Devin Setoguchi’s shot that proved to be the game-winning goal in the 10th minute.
There were cameras and microphones all around Howard after the game and questioning him as to what happen. All he had to say was, "I thought we deserved to win," Howard said. "Point blank, I thought we deserved to win. It's playoff hockey. It happens. What
can I say? It's tough.”
It came as a surprise to the Red Wings as the game was played on home-ice and they were in a good position despite losing the first two games in the series with a single goal margin. But they said that the away ice was the deciding factor.
If we open the history books then we can see that out of the last eight games between the two teams in the play-offs, the Sharks have won seven games by a single goal out of which three have come in overtime.
"It just shows how fine of a line it is between both teams and it could go either way," said Howard, who got his glove on Dan Boyle's game-tying goal with 4:08 left in the third but couldn't hold it. "They're just finding a way to win."
The Red Wings will be hoping not to end their run like the Capitals did, who ended their running in the play-offs as the Lightning won the series 4-0. They still have a chance to come back, that is hard but still not impossible as the Flyers showed last
year in the semi-finals against the Bruins.
