Detroit Red Wings extend winning streak 5-2 over Dallas Stars -NHL Match Update
Dallas was looking to continue winning extend one of their best records so far in recent years in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season but faced their second straight loss as the Detroit Red Wings dominated the Stars, 5-2, Saturday night,
November 12, 2011, at the sold-out Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, United States.
Detroit is now off again to a winning streak, which is four in a row now, needing one more to tie with their five straight to kick off the new season.
"We have a lot of talent in here", Detroit’s veteran defenseman, Nicklas Lidstrom, said. "I think we believed in ourselves when we hit that slump, but now, we're shooting the puck and we're getting traffic, too. That's something we talked a lot about".
Loui Eriksson gave Dallas the lead when he scoring his ninth of the season during their first power play opportunity of the night as Lidstrom was booked at the 5:11 mark with a minor penalty for interference.
Niklas Kronwall levelled the contest with his fourth of the season nearly 10 minutes later, ending the opening period with both teams tied 1-1.
Ian White made the tie-breaker early in the second while Dallas’, Brenden Morrow, answered with another Dallas goal a little over midway through to again tie and force an intense third period.
Detroit Red Wings dominated the third period as Johan Franzen, Darren Helm and Brad Stuart, added three straight goals and took the lead for the home team midway through the third, ultimately securing the match in their favour.
"You like to see guys selling out", Red Wings coach, Mike Babcock, said about Ian White who took a hit to the face in the second period and had to go out and get stitches. "I don't like to see guys get hit in the face, but a great message to his teammates,
and he competes every night."
Detroit will be looking for a fifth straight win when they face-off against the St. Louis Blues kicking off their four game road trip after a 4-2 stay at home.
Dallas is returning home to host the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.
