Detroit Red Wings’ forward Cory Emmerton breaks his finger while playing SM-liiga in Finland
Cory Emmerton, a professional ice hockey player from Canada and a versatile forward, who can play both as a centre and a left winger from Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League (NHL), broke his finger while playing the very first match in the SM-liiga
in Finland
The finger injury could keep the Red Wings’ player out for at least two months as he would have a surgery performed on his finger after the injury.
The 24-year-old player was obviously very disappointed on breaking the finger in the very first match. He wrote about his injury in a very sarcastic manner as he suffered the injury in his very first period, while playing his very first shot and tweeted
on his official Twitter account,
"1 period 1 shot 1 blocked shot 1 broken finger, great stats”.
The St. Thomas, Ontario native was a very key member of the Red Wings’ team last season, as he featured in 71 games and scored six goals, four assists for a total of 10 points. Red Wings cannot comment on the player or his injury as there is a lockout going
on and they are not supposed to do it.
But the Detroit, Michigan based side will surely miss the player if the NHL lockout ends in next few weeks and they have to call their players back. Even though they have got depth on their roster and got enough players to play upfront but they must be praying
for the speedy recovery of their experienced forward.
The second round selectee of the 2006 NHL Draft, was selected 41st overall by Red Wings and made his NHL debut in 2010-2011 season and scored a goal in his very first match against Chicago Blackhawks.
Before making his NHL debut, Emmerton played several years in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and American Hockey League (AHL). The 2005-2006 season for Kingston Frontenacs in the OHL was his best, in which he scored 26 goals and 64 assists for a total of
90 points in 66 games.
Other than that, he spent five seasons with Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL and one season with Brampton Battalion in OHL.
