Detroit Red Wings going into new season as offensive team instead of defensive -NHL Update
It might be the first time ever than the Detroit Red Wings are entering a National Hockey League (NHL) regular season better equipped to be a more forward based team than defensive.
With the retirement of captain and one of the league’s best defenseman, Nicklas Lidtsrom, the Red Wings have a lot of catching up to do now that the veteran legend is not in the scene any more to lead them.
Brad Stuart left Detroit to go get a position with San Jose Sharks during the offseason while enforcer, Tom Holmstrom, is yet to be signed by Detroit. The biggest disappointment of the free agency was not being able to get their hands on Nashville Predators’
Ryan Suter, in whom they saw another Nicklas Lidstrom.
Suter chose to sign to a huge deal with Minnesota Wild alongside former New Jersey Devils’ captain, Zach Parise, to make a struggling club predicted to be the highest ranked next time around with the amount of talent they have locked up now.
At the moment, Detroit Red Wings have six defenders locked and loaded. Niklas Kronwall, Ian White, Jonathan Ericsson, Kyle Quincey, Brendan Smith and Jakub Kindl. While it might not be enough to satisfy the team’s demands, they need to learn how to work
around the gaping loopholes for another successful season or their 21-year continuous playoffs appearance might be jeopardised.
Danny Cleary, Pavel Datsyuk and Johan Franzen are leading the offensive lineup while Valtteri Filppula, Henrik Zetterberg and Damien Brunner come in next. Gastav Nyguist, Darren Helm and Mikael Samuelsson have things covered at third, but it does not stop
there for sure. Drew Miller, Justin Abdelkader and Todd Bertuzzi are on fourth while Cory Emmerton and Jordin Tootoo are also available to be moved around.
Jimmy Howard remains Detroit’s number-one and will have to give it all in net as they lack the presence of some of their top defensemen to keep the puck far, far away from the goal.
Updates are expected in regards to the Detroit Red Wings making some trades in the upcoming days. It will definitely be interesting to see what they come up with.
