Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock keeps himself busy with the charity work during lockout
Mike Babcock, a former professional ice hockey player from Canada and presently the head coach of the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League (NHL), has been enjoying his days with the family and charity work during the NHL lockout.
Mostly during this time of the year, players and coaches are very busy with their routine practices and work outs but the 49-year-old Mighty Ducks of Anaheim’s player has been keep himself busy and happy by engaging himself in different activities this year.
The Manitouwadge, Ontario native went to the DMC Children's Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and played with the little children there. He also distributed gifts among the children there and helped all of them have a great time during their difficult time of
fighting diseases.
The former player, who is also a very active supporter of the same hospitals research centre of paediatric cancer, also enjoyed himself during his time with the kids. He said that it was a great time to enjoy the holiday with those children and he felt inner
peace when he spent time with their families, as he said,
"These are amazing kids. It's great to be able to share some joy during this (holiday) season with them. It's great to spend time with them and their families."
Babcock also revealed that he is not keeping himself completely away from hockey as he try to keep his mind fresh and keep the ideas coming by watching games. He also had taken some time out to watch Grand Rapids Griffins, the affiliates of his team in the
American Hockey League, as he also said,
"I just keep at it. It doesn't matter. You look for ideas and keep fresh."
Babcock also admitted that he is very happy to spend some time with his family because he does not get this opportunity in the working days, as he added,
"(Spending time with my family) is a blessing. I've been doing a lot of stuff. I always still busy, so that doesn't change. My wife would tell you trial retirement hasn't gone good. I shouldn't retire anytime soon."
