Detroit Red Wings hopeful of a comeback against San Jose Sharks
The semi-final series between the Detroit Red Wings and the San Jose Sharks is becoming more exciting with each passing game.
Currently, the Sharks are leading the series 3-2 but with both teams pretty much even at the moment neither of the teams can be categorized as favourites. The Sharks had won the first three straight games in the series and it looked as if they would wrap
up the series.
However, the Red Wings were able to fight their way back into the series winning the last two games. Unfortunately, it is still do or die for them as the Sharks are still a single win away from the Conference Finals.
The Red Wings were hurt and low on confidence, as they lost the first three games but their approach of one game at a time has allowed them to come in touching distance. As about the confidence in the team now, when Coach Babcock was asked about game seven’s
trip to San Jose Sharks if that happens, he had this to say:
"Oh, we're getting on it".
The thing that would worry the Red Wings ahead of the upcoming games would be the fact that two of their star players, Pavel Datsyuk, and, Johan Franzen, are still doubtful to play due to injuries.
Datsyuk is facing a wrist problem that prohibited him from coming up with any face-offs during the last game. Although he managed to come up with three assists in the game, it is reported that his wrist has gotten worse.
Franzen on the other hand, is still facing the side effects of the hit to his ankle by Coyotes Captain, Shane Doan, in the first round. Datsyuk is the best face-off player in the team according to the coach but there is a possibility that he still might
start despite the slight injury, as he showed his contribution in the last game ending the night without any face-offs.
The Sharks will be looking to end the series, as soon as possible and hope that the series doesn’t go into game seven.
However, the Red Wings are flooded with players that have a lot of National Hockey League experience, which makes them a very strong opposition in the game.
“There’s a calmness”, second-year goalie Jimmy Howard said of Detroit’s mood when falling behind 3-0 in the series. “There’s a lot of experience in our dressing room and when your leaders have been through a lot, you just look to them. When you see (Lidstrom’s)
face and see how calm he is, it just trickles down”.
The Red Wings team is hoping for a seventh game against the Sharks but they will need to win game six, which is expected to be a very entertaining and exciting battle.
