Detroit Red Wings need players to step up in lieu of Nicklas Lidstrom -NHL Update
Detroit Red Wings is by far still one of the best clubs in the National Hockey League (NHL), but with the retirement of captain Nicklas Lidstrom, the franchise is still struggling to accept his absence and the willingness needed to move on.
The sooner Detroit realises that they will not be getting him back no matter what, the faster the club can adjust to the new conditions and harsh environments of the NHL as players gear up from all sorts of teams to become the next hot attractions the league
has to offer.
What Detroit Red Wings need now is someone who will provide them with that leadership role. They had been looking towards Ryan Suter of the Nashville Predators in the past but failed to grab the player as he opted to sign with Minnesota Wild alongside former
New Jersey Devils captain, Zach Parise.
Many players are being termed to be some who may be able to replace the gone captain as time goes on. Some of the names being tipped off as the next captain are Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg or Niklas Kronwall.
There might also be a fourth name but nothing certain has been released by the franchise as of yet.
"You never want anything to stop on your watch, so here we go," Red Wings coach, Mike Babcock, told NHL.com.
With Brad Stuart gone, Detroit Red Wings are currently in which one could term to a defensive crisis. They need players like Jonathan Ericsson to come out and play a bigger role. Because without the 28-year-old being at the top of his game, Detroit might
become a sluggish team.
"[Ericsson] last year, when our penalty killing turned the corner, we felt it was because of Big E on the back end. That's going to be a huge part," Babcock said. "We don't need Big E to be a star offensively; we need him to move the puck and be the huge
man he is. I think he has a chance to be a real nice player for us, and we need growth out of him.”
With a new season, Detroit has a new set of challenges, which makes following them during the hockey year even more exciting.
