Detroit Red Wings play host to San Jose Sharks in game six (Preview)
The Detroit Red Wings will be hosting the San Jose Sharks in game six of the semi-final series between the two teams, at the Joe Louis Arena this Tuesday (May 10, 2011).
The Red Wings have shown that they have the capability of coming back from even the most difficult of the situations with their confidence sky high. They were on the verge of elimination in game four, as they were trailing 3-0 in the series.
However, they managed to win the next two games to cut the deficit to just a single game now.
Game 4 was even tougher as they were down and out with the Sharks leading 3-0.
However, they put up a fighting performance that resulted in the team rallying back to level the scores on 3-3 and in the end they scored the fourth goal to win the game. Game 5 was no different, as the Sharks led the game 2-0 but once again the Red Wings
came up with a strong performance that saw them winning the game 4-3 in the end.
The Red Wings have shown the great ability to keep things simple and not panic if the opposition has the upper hand. The last two games that they have managed to win have both been after they have fallen behind.
The self-belief and confidence has raised the morale of the team and Red Wings can go very far in the postseason if they are able to keep going this way.
"There’s a calmness", second-year goalie, Jimmy Howard, said of Detroit's mood when falling behind 3-0 in the series. "There's a lot of experience in our dressing room and when your leaders have been through a lot, you just look to them. When you see (Lidstrom's)
face and see how calm he is, it just trickles down".
The Sharks on the other hand looked to hand the Red Wings with a clean sweep exit at one stage. However, their defence hasn’t been able to show the same brilliance in the last two games as they did previously.
Both the games that have lost have been due to a weak performance in one of the three periods. The Red Wings composure has helped them, as they have managed to score goals in the dying stages of the game.
On the other hand, the worrying thing about the Sharks is the fact that they are unable to come up with the same productivity as their opponents even though they have had an ample amount of chances.
"I have a pretty good idea what I'm going to share with our club later on today", coach Todd McLellan said. "We'll have a meeting and we'll keep that inside the locker room. We worked hard all year to prepare for these moments. We'll make sure that we take
it up a notch higher than we did last night".
The game is surely going to be exciting as it will determine the future of the two teams as the Sharks lead the series 3-2.
