Detroit Red Wings players preparing for potential lockout -NHL Update
Fans might have had hope with both sides of the negotiations discussing a new labour deal in order to avoid another potential lockout, but when players begin to get ready to face a work stoppage, than they have the right to stop believing in seeing better
days.
That is the case with Detroit Red Wings players, which are still unclear of whether the National Hockey League (NHL) and NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) will be able to reach a conclusion on the matter, but it seems like due to their inside information
from direct representation, they have a bad feeling a lockout is unavoidable.
For now, players are expecting there to be a delay in the training camp phase prior to the preseason, but still, nothing can be said sure about the regular season coming into play at all on the scheduled time.
"I'm not sure, I would say it's 50-50," forward Danny Cleary said, according to DetroitNews.com. "We'll see. I was optimistic when we gave them our offer, but the league didn't respond to it (favourably).
There is still no confirmation about the matter whether going into a lockout would mean a shorter season or not, but experts are terming that to be a reality that they will have to face later on.
"For the fans, for the game of hockey, you hope both sides can come to an agreement soon," said forward Drew Miller. "Everybody wants to play and start the season."
The initial proposal by the NHL was one which the NHLPA had to decline hands down due to the terms and conditions being against the players in every which way possible, but a counter proposal by the labour union did not have much effect on the league as
well.
"It wasn't the type of proposal you'd like to see, but you understand that's going to happen in these type of negotiations," Abdelkader said.
One thing is for sure and that is all players support Donald Fehr and will continue to do so, putting the league in a top spot.
Updates on the issue should be expected in the upcoming days and both sides look towards easing the tensions.
