Detroit Red Wings prospect Marek Tvrdon out for Season due to Shoulder Blood Clot -NHL Update
It was a scary, very scary moment for the Detroit Red Wings young prospect, Marek Tvrdon, who was currently performing with the Vancouver Giants and is now out for the entire season due to a blood clot in his shoulder.
Prior to their game against the Prince George Cougars, the 19-year-old felt that his arm was swelling up and felt heavy. It forced him to show it to the medical staff present at the arena, who indicated that it is not something he would be able to play with.
After being shifted to a local Vancouver hospital, it was found out that a blood clot was present in his left shoulder, of which the cause is yet to be determined.
"Marek had a small blockage isolated to a single vein in his left shoulder," Giants general manager, Scott Bonner, said Thursday in a statement on the team's website. "It was completely and rapidly dissolved and he is doing very well.”
"Marek is under the excellent care of numerous specialists and he is recovering quickly. He will not be returning this season but he is expected to have a full recovery and future career as a hockey player. Right now our priority is Marek's health and well-being
and we would like to respect his and his family's privacy."
The biggest scare that Marek got was when the doctor at Vancouver General Hospital told him that he may never be able to play hockey again, but luckily, that is not the case as the staff expect a full recovery some time later on next year.
Tvrdon is a 115th overall pick of the Detroit Red Wings during round four of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft and has yet to play in a major league matchup.
The past season, the native of Nitra, Slovakia, registered 74 points (31 goals, 43 assists) with the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League (WHL), in 60 games played.
Updates on the prospect should be expected in the next three to four days as doctors determine the cause and need of surgery to repair the affected area.
