Detroit Red Wings thrash Dallas Stars 7-3 away from home
Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves scored the first hat trick of his career and grabbed an assist, as his side hammered the Dallas Stars 7-3 on Wednesday night.
The Red Wings started the match as favourites and they helped their cause scoring in the second minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Jiri Hudler from a brilliant snap shot that went flying into the back of the net.
After being rattled by the visitors’ early goal, the home team slowly settled into the game and dominated the remainder of the period. Although the Dallas Stars had numerous chances to level the scores, the Red Wings defence was charged up and on top of
their game. They didn’t allow the Stars to create too many clear –cut chances and the period ended with the Red Wings leading 1-0. During the period Dallas Stars made 12 goal attempts, while the Detroit Red Wings made just four goal attempts.
The next 20 minutes saw both teams absolutely explode right from the start. It was the Dallas Stars who attacked in the early part of the period, and scored the first goal of the period to level the score through Brad Richards. Dallas continued to pile the
pressure on the Red Wings and didn’t give them any space and possession to settle. They put the Red Wings under further pressure once again when they scored in the seventh minute through Mark Fistric.
A few seconds later Jamie Benn scored Dallas’s third goal to give them a comfortable 3-1 lead. That seemed to jolt Detroit into action and they scored in the ninth minute to reduce the deficit to just one goal through Nicklas Lidstrom. Detroit’s comeback
was complete when Patrick Eaves scored in the 18th minute. The period ended with the scores level at 3-all.
The Final 20 minutes of play didn’t see many goal attempts, as the Detroit Red Wings made seven goal attempts compared to Dallas Stars five. However it was the conversion rate which proved to be the difference between the sides.
Detroit took the lead through Brad Stuart’s goal in the sixth minute. The Red Wings then scored twice in quick succession. The first of the goals was scored in the 14th minute by Kris Draper and the second by Patrick Eaves in the 15th minute. Eaves sealed
