Detroit Red Wings thrash the Minnesota Wild 4-1
Henrik Zetterberg scored a goal and provided an assist as the Detroit Red Wings thrashed the Minnesota Wild 4-1 on Sunday night. This was only Detroit’s second win in their last five games.
Despite playing away from home, the Detroit Red Wings came up with a dominant performance and controlled the game throughout. They attacked right from the word go, and scored in the fifth minute to take the lead. The goal was scored by Henrik Zetterberg
from a brilliant long range shot. Once they took the lead, Detroit kept on piling the pressure, and successfully doubled the lead in the ninth minute, through Danny Cleary’s well placed flick shot.
Having established a two-goal advantage, the Red Wings were still hungry for more goals and kept on attacking. However, they couldn’t score any further goals in the opening period. The period ended with the Minnesota Wild firing a few shots, but with little
success. The Red Wings led 2-0 at the break, as they made 13 goal attempts, while the Minnesota Wild had four goal attempts.
The Red Wings continued to dominate proceedings in the second period, and they created more scoring chances. The away side put together some brilliant attacking moves, and it was only a matter of time before they extended their lead further. Kris Draper
scored from a decent tip in shot in the sixth minute to make it 3-0.
Detroit then sealed the match with their fourth and final goal of the night in the 14th minute. Tomas Holmstrom scored the goal from a spectacular backhand shot. The period ended with the Red Wings attacking until the very end with the score at 4-0. During
the course of the period the Red Wings made nine goal attempts, while the Minnesota Wild made five goal attempts.
Minnesota was able to restore some pride in the final period, when they scored a consolation goal in the 17th minute. The goal was scored by Brent Burns from a flick shot, as the Detroit Red Wings won the match 4-1.
Henrik Zetterberg of the Detroit Red Wings was named the star selection of the match with a goal and an assist.
