Detroit Red Wings up for setting NHL record as Dallas Stars visit – NHL Preview
The Detroit Red Wings already have 20 straight wins on their home ice and no one can tell what’s more to come.
Whatever happens in the future is yet to be seen, but the threatening tone set by Detroit on home ice indeed frightens the visitors and it is time for Dallas Stars to get some treat from the Red Wings as the two teams prepare to face each other on Tuesday,
February 14, 2012, at Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan.
If Detroit gets a victory over Stars, it will become the first team in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL) to win 21 consecutive games on home ice.
However, the players and the management have repeatedly asserted that the team’s primary focus is to win the games rather than focusing on registering new records.
Detroit’s goaltender, Joey MacDonald, said:
"I'm just taking it game by game and not really thinking about the streak. Sure it's there in the back of your mind all of the time, but just go in and try doing what I've been doing, which is build on every single game and things will take care of themselves."
Detroit is leading the Western Conference with 78 points after 57 games and has played its last three games on home ice.
The Stars, who are struggling to be among the top eight teams of the conference, should display an outstanding performance to prevent Detroit from winning its 21st straight game on home ice.
Dallas is ranked at 11th spot in the conference with 59 points after 55 games.
Stars have lost four of their last six games and are currently on a two-game losing streak.
The recent loss came against Los Angeles Kings in which Stars went two goals down before scoring twice.
However, Kings scored two more goals to win the game.
Dallas’ centre, Mike Ribeiro said about his team:
"It's important for us to show up every night. Hopefully, we can get out of this month on the winning side, and get the most points that we can have to look forward to March."
Without any doubt, the Red Wings are favourites for the game.
