Detroit Red Wings’ veteran player Nicklas Lidstrom unaffected by the age factor – NHL Updates
There are numerous questions hovering over the future of Detroit Red Wings’ veteran player, Nicklas Lidstrom. However, Red Wings’ goalie, Jimmy Howard, believes that there is still significant time left in the player and he can play forever.
"I bet you he could", Howard said about Lidstrom. "He's just so smart out there. He's the smartest hockey player I've ever played with, bar none. He just never puts himself in a compromising position. He's just a tremendous hockey player".
There were many speculations about the future of Lidstrom as he was expected to leave the National Hockey League (NHL) if Detroit Red Wings lost the fourth game against San Jose Sharks.
He scored two goals in the fourth game and ensured that Red Wings was to stay in the playoffs at least for one more game this season.
He has scored four goals in the series so far out of which one was absolutely brilliant to say the least.
Lidstrom stopped a firing pass from Henrik Zetterberg and struck a superb shot that went into the back of the net. This goal was scored in the last game and put Red Wings ahead by 3-0.
Detroit Red Wings looked down and out of the series but Nicklas Lidstrom’s performance certainly added another one his spectacular performances in his career books.
He has achieved a lot during his career and without a doubt he will make his way into NHL’s Hall of Fame.
Along with the two goals in the game, he had a total of six shots on goal and one block. Even though Lidstrom has shown a great level of game, some still say that there is no chance of him coming up with productive performances at his age.
"I don't know. We'll see about that after the season", Lidstrom said. "I feel good. My ice time is probably down a little bit from past seasons, so I feel good".
Red Wings will be hoping that he does the same in the next game so that it gets a chance to give San Jose Sharks a tough time.
"There's no question who our leader is and he showed it once again", Detroit’s forward, Patrick Eaves, said while talking to his teammates. "He's one of those special players. We all shake our head at what he does".
